Tottenham saw their home struggles continue on Saturday afternoon as they laboured to a 0-0 draw with Swansea.

Despite coming off the back of a confidence boosting 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, the Spurs players struggled to break down the Swans' resolute defence, leaving Mauricio Pochettino's side without a win at home in the league this season.

Harry Kane was unable to continue his fine scoring run, which has seen him net four goals in two games across all competitions, while the likes of Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli were frustrated by Paul Clement's side.

The result leaves Spurs fifth, five points behind league leaders Manchester City and a point behind Newcastle in fourth.

So what did this bore draw teach us? Here, Football Insider analyses three points which we learned through this 0-0 stalemate, including which of Tottenham's stars should be axed from the starting XI.

Pochettino needs a plan B

It is not something that happens very often, but Mauricio Pochettino had an off day against Swansea.

His starting XI was evidently lacking some of the club's stronger players, with the likes of Ben Davies and Serge Aurier rested after their clash with Dortmund.

In came the likes of Kieran Trippier and Moussa Sissoko, but they could not provide the cutting edge needed to break down a disciplined Swansea side.

However, the real problem came from the Argentinian manager failing to have a plan B for the situation.

He brought off Sissoko for Aurier, who arguably is a more defensive minded player, while he gave former Swansea striker Fernando Llorente just 15 minutes to make a difference against his former side.

Pochettino should have seen his tactics were offering little success, and as a result he should have acted sooner and switched up his tactics in search of that elusive match winning goal.

Tottenham lack a cutting edge

Despite having the attacking threat of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min on the pitch at the same time, it would be fair to say that Tottenham looked toothless at times.

While Eriksen was consistent with the quality of his deliveries from open play and set pieces, the same cannot be said about the finishing of his team mates.

Alli, while he looked positive with the ball at his feet, failed to get into the same dangerous positions we as fans are so used to seeing him in, in what proved to be a real off-day for the youngster.

Son meanwhile, although labelled as a left wing back, was often the most advanced player in the Swansea box, although again failed to demonstrate the fine attacking flair we have become accustomed to seeing.

Kane perhaps was the most unlucky out of the quartet, losing out in the battle with Swansea goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski, who pulled off a series of quality saves to deny the in-form England hitman.

However, that is no excuse for coming away with just a point when they dominated possession, and it will be a case of heading back to the training ground to work on the team's attacking cohesion.

Dier deserves to be dropped

While it was a disappointing performance all round from Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino ought to be most displeased with the showing from England midfielder Eric Dier.

The 23-year-old enforcer offered very little to his side against Swansea, with his defensive duties offset by the Swans' lack of attacking potency.

While he saw much of the ball, he failed to create a single chance throughout the match, adding to the offensive woes suffered by his team mates.

With the likes of Mousa Dembele, who would be a much more well rounded player in the defensive midfield role, sitting on the bench, it is about time that Dier is axed, with important matches against Reading in the League Cup and West Ham in the League coming up.
