'To be honest...' - Exclusive: Agbonlahor savages Aston Villa 26yo letting the team down

Gabriel Agbonlahor has slammed Aston Villa winger Trezeguet's finishing and suggested it cost Villa at least a point against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the legendary former Villa forward hailed the rest of the Egyptian's game but called on him to work on his end product.

Trezeguet wasted a golden opportunity towards the end of the second half against the Seagulls as Dean Smith's side were trailing 2-1.

It means the 26-year-old has still not scored in the Premier League all season and has only one assist to his name.

Asked by Football Insider if he was frustrated by the winger's performance against Brighton, Agbonlahor said: “If any Villa fan or the coaching staff look at Trezeguet, he does all the good things but it’s the final product that's disappointing.

“His finishing is erratic.

“You look at that chance he missed with his left foot, you’ve got to hit the target at least. You have to score to be honest, but at least hit the target.

“That’s the problem, he gets into good positions but his final ball can be wrong. When it’s on to pass sometimes he’ll shoot.

“There’s a good player in there but he needs to work on a training field to work on his finishing and his final ball.

“That’s the difference between the Premier League and the Championship. He needs to take his chances. If he takes that chance it’s a different game.”

Trezeguet scored six times in 34 top-flight appearances last season, including strikes against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

He moved to Villa Park from Turkish Super Lig side Kasımpaşa for a reported £8.75million fee.
