Tottenham rising star Alfie Whiteman is keen on a loan move in January to kickstart his senior career, Football Insider understands.

The goalkeeper, 21, has yet to play for Spurs and was knocked further down the pecking order when the club reacted to Hugo Lloris' long-term injury by re-signing Michel Vorm.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Whiteman believes the time is right to go out on loan to an EFL club in the upcoming winter window.

The academy product is set to ask the club to try and secure a 2020 move to a side where Whiteman can hope to play in the second half of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino does not regard the youngster, who has been capped by England at Under-19 level, as ready for the first team.

Whiteman has trained regularly with the seniors this season but is seen as a long way off the standard of the senior trio and the recent promotion of Brandon Austin places him fifth in the pecking order.

Lloris faces a battle to win back his place when he returns from his elbow injury in the new year after his deputy Paulo Gazzaniga stepped into the breach with such success.

Vorm has been on the bench in recent games after a three-match spell in which Brandon Austin, 20, was preferred to Whiteman as the back-up.

That move by Pochettino was said to have left homegrown star Whiteman "crushed" and he believes he needs a move to ignite his career
