Tottenham fans have exploded at Brighton defender Joel Veltman after his attempt to get James Maddison sent off at the AMEX.

Ange Postecoglou's side threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 away from home after goals from Brennan Johnson and Maddison were overturned by Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck.

However, it was the Brighton defender who attracted the attention of the travelling supporters after his antics and attempts to deceive the referee.

Following Maddison going down in the box in search of a penalty, the defender lifted him off the floor, accusing him of diving before falling to the floor himself under no contact.

The Tottenham man's reaction carried no malice, but the 32-year-old fell flat on his back in a desperate attempt to see him booked or sent off.

As footage did the rounds on social media, fans could not believe what they had seen - tearing into Veltman for his "embarrassing" actions.

It was Veltman who had the last laugh despite Maddison's goal in the 37th minute as his side mounted a fantastic comeback victory, with the Spurs man substituted off late in the game.

Tottenham fans' attentions, though, were taken away from the frustrating result as they took to social media in criticism of Veltman, labelling him "pathetic".
