Erik Lamela salvaged a point for Tottenham against Everton in their Premier League opener - and Spurs fans paid tribute to the increasingly influential Argentine on Twitter.

Everton took a 5th-minute lead in the clash at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon but Lamela equalised with a second-half header.

It vindicated Mauricio Pochettino's decision to select him ahead of new signing Vincent Janssen and several attacking midfield options.

Lamela struggled in his first 18 months at White Hart Lane but he has prospered under the tutelage of his fellow Argentine.

The Argentina international scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions last season and there is a growing sense there is much more to come from the 24-year-old.
