Toby Alderweireld delivered a message to Tottenham fans on Twitter following the 6-1 thrashing of Rochdale in the FA Cup – and fans besieged him with messages begging him to sign a new contract.
After making a brief comeback after injury, Alderweireld has been absent again for the past couple of weeks.
He has also been in the headlines over his contract extension, with talks stalled.
However, his message on Wednesday night gave no hint that he wasn't fully committed to the Spurs, saying "Bring on the next round, FA Cup quarter-finals!" with a fist emoji.
One fan made a brilliant reference to the controversial VAR that was in operation during the game, showing a picture of the ref with the words, "Yep, so the final decision is... Toby should sign the contract."
