Eric Dier played the entire 90 minutes of Tottenham's 2-0 Premier League win against Chelsea on Wednesday night - and fans took to Twitter to hail his performance.

Two headers from the in-form Dele Alli, one either side of half-time, settled a tight contest as Tottenham blew the title race wide open at White Hart Lane.

Spurs were able to hang on to the two-goal advantage given to them by Alli to secure their fifth consecutive league triumph and end Chelsea's remarkable winning run.

Mauricio Pochettino had decided to match Chelsea's 3-4-3 formation by using Dier as one of three centre-backs alongside establishing pair Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Dier, who has been used almost predominantly in defence over the last three months as cover for injured and suspended colleagues, delivered an accomplished display against the in-form Chelsea front three of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Pedro.

Supporters were delighted with the performance of the England international.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Dier has been a mainstay of the Spurs side this season despite losing the regular starting place in central midfield that he held last season.

He has started 16 of the club's 19 Premier League matches as well as five of their six Champions League encounters.
