Tottenham fans have torn Erik Lamela to shreds for his performance in the 1-0 defeat with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino opted to start Lamela, 26, over the likes of Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son against Albion, who welcomed Spurs to the Black Country off the back of a stunning run of form under caretaker manager Darren Moore.

Although Spurs enjoyed most of the possession, Lamela really failed to have any impact on proceedings and opened himself up for a lot of criticism from fans on Twitter.

One angry Tottenham supporter even claimed that the Argentina international has "got to go this summer".

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Lamela has really struggled for a consistent run of form since returning from a year on the sidelines before Christmas.

The former Roma star has started just six Premier League games which perhaps has not helped him get back to his best, however he has still been able to make 31 appearances in all competitions for the North London club, scoring two goals in the process.

Next up for Spurs is a home clash against Newcastle United at Wembley on Wednesday night before they end the season, and their tenancy at the England national stadium, against Leicester on Sunday.
