Paul Robinson is "surprised" Tottenham manager Antonio Conte overlooked Clement Lenglet against Wolves.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one expected the 27-year-old to come into the starting XI in the absence Cristian Romero.

Romero was ruled out of Saturday's game against Wolves with an adductor injury.

The Argentina international was replaced by Davinson Sanchez at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Summer signing Lenglet was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win.

He is yet to make his full debut for the club since arriving from Barcelona on loan.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Conte's selection against Wolves, Robinson said: "I was surprised to see Sanchez play against Wolves.

"I thought Lenglet would get his full debut. I expected him to start.

"Davinson Sanchez does carry an element of risk with the way he defends at times. I was surprised he got the nod.

"You have to say that Sanchez played very well at the weekend though. He had one shaky moment but other than that I thought he was very good.

"You would not hesitate to start him against Nottingham Forest at the weekend if Romero is not ready."

Sanchez made 32 appearances across all competitions for Spurs in the 2021-22 campaign and scored twice.

The Colombia international has two years remaining on his contract in north London.
