Tottenham are still in the box seat to land Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs are in pole position to bring the midfielder to the club this summer despite their recent slump in form - which leaves them on the brink of missing out on Champions League football next term.

Gallagher, 24, will have just 12 months left on his contract at Chelsea next month and is no closer to renewing his deal following a recent halt in talks.

The Blues are braced for a huge backlash from both fans and manager Mauricio Pochettino if the midfielder leaves Stamford Bridge this summer.

Gallagher has been given the captain's armband in the absence of Reece James and has been vociferously supported by the Chelsea fans as speculation about his future lingers.

Nevertheless, the London side are in danger of breaching Financial Fair Play rules and need to sell key players to avoid potential punishment.

Tottenham are long-term admirers of Gallagher and tried to bring him to the club after Ange Postecoglou's arrival last year (2023).

Chelsea

The England international, who is likely to play at this summer's European Championships, has made 48 appearances across all competitions - starting in 44 of those outings.

Postecoglou's side sit fifth in the table and require a five-point swing in the final two games to secure a top-four finish.
