Tottenham are planning to make a fresh approach to sign Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United in the January window, Football Insider sources understand.

The London giants had an enquiry for the France international rebuffed by United in the final days of the summer window.

But a well-placed Tottenham source has told Football Insider that manager Mauricio Pochettino remains keen on taking Schneiderlin to White Hart Lane.

Pochettino is keen on making a fresh approach for the central midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

Spurs already have summer signing Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and youngster Harry Winks competing for a place in central midfield, but have not been as effective in that part of the pitch as they were last season.

Pochettino managed Schneiderlin for two seasons when he was at the Southampton helm and made the midfield anchorman a fulcrum of the team.

But the 27-year-old has failed to establish himself in the United first team following his £25million transfer in the summer of 2015.

Schneiderlin started 33 of the club's 59 matches under ex-boss Louis van Gaal last season and has been used even less frequently since Jose Mourinho took charge in the summer.

The Frenchman has failed to start a single Premier League match this season, and has made just three substitute appearances in the competition.

His only three starts have come in the Europa League and the League Cup.
