Tottenham news: Son Heung-min looks 'bothered' and 'uncomfortable' - 'get rid', says pundit
Tottenham star Son Heung-min looks "bothered" by his injury.
That's according to former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker.
The 30-year-old sustained a fracture around his left eye in the first half of Spurs' Champions League game at Marseille on 1 November.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, relayed by football.london (25 November), the forward said the injury was a “nightmare” but made sure he did everything he could to be ready for the World Cup.
On 2 December, insider Ben Dinnery told this site that Son's performance metrics are down at the tournament.
Son has struggled to make his mark on the international stage but his assist for Hwang Hee-chan's stoppage time goal against Portugal helped secure his side a place in the last 16.
McAvennie insisted the injury has been causing problems for Son.
"It has bothered him," he told Football Insider.
"He is not comfortable wearing that [mask]. He has not looked his accomplished self when he gets the ball. He was always very accomplished on the ball. He looks as if he does not want anyone coming near him.
"It is as if his eye is bothering him. It is as if he does not want anyone to hit him again. That is a thing he has got to get over in his own mind. He has got to get rid of that.
"It is a shame but he has got to get rid of that. He looked as if he did not want to tackle, he did not want anyone to come near him.
"If you are not in the right frame of mind to play, you can't play in the World Cup because you are not doing your teammates any good."
