Cameroon manager Hugo Broos has claimed Clinton N’Jie would rather not join Marseille ahead of the transfer deadline.

Sky Sports claimed on their website on Tuesday that Tottenham were close to completing the protracted swap deal involving N'Jie and Marseille winger Kevin-Georges N’Koudou.

But N'Jie's national team boss has suggested that the 23-year-old would rather join his former club Lyon, where he spent three years before moving to Tottenham last summer.

The claim comes as N'Jie is set to join Marseille on a season-long loan, with N'Koudou heading the other way.

"Njie telephoned me last week to tell me about his transfer problems. He wants to go to Lyon but Tottenham want him to go to Marseille," Broos told Cameroon football website CAMFOOT.

"First, he asked if it was possible to arrive (to the Cameroon campt) this Wednesday, but I refused. Then he said he will be there on Sunday or Monday. But Sunday, he again called me to tell me that there are new problems and it would keep him.

"Since that day there I have no more news Njie. I do not know what will happen but I am waiting to hear from him."

Sky Sports reported earlier this month week on their official Twitter account that Spurs had agreed a fee of £11million for N'Koudou, and N’Jie would head the other way on a loan-to-buy deal.

The deal was held up earlier in the summer while the two clubs haggled over the specifics of the fee, with L’Equipe, as cited by the Sun, reporting that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wanted a special hamstring clause inserted into the agreement.

N’Koudou, 21, joined Marseille from Nantes during last summer and the winger proved to be one of the signings of the Ligue 1 campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists in 41 matches in all competitions.

N’Jie, who has struggled to break into the Spur side after suffering injuries and mixed form since joining from Lyon last summer, was pictured in training at Tottenham’s Enfield headquarters in August.
