Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Tottenham defender Ben Davies for his "brilliant" form of late.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one suggested Antonio Conte will look to sign an upgrade on the 29-year-old this summer.

Davies starred in a 1-0 win over Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking to BBC Sport (15 May), Conte lauded the Wales international and claimed he "is having an amazing season."

Furthermore, Conte compared Davies to Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

Azpilicueta excelled in a back three under the Italian manager between 2016 and 2018 at Stamford Bridge.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his assessment of Davies' form and future, Robinson said: "Davies is playing well but he's not a centre-half for me.

"Conte is playing with three at the back and that is giving him an opportunity.

"Davies is more of a left-back for me. I wouldn't play him as a centre-half.

"He has been brilliant of late. He has had some really good games.

"But I don't think he has a long-term as a centre-half at Spurs. I think Conte will look to strengthen in that position come the summer."

Davies has 42 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.

He has formed a formidable backline in north London alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero.
