Tottenham tipped to sign Skipp replacement in January after source's reveal - pundit
Oliver Skipp is not good enough if Tottenham want to finish in the top four, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Spurs should prioritise strengthening their midfield in the January transfer window.
A club source told Football Insider yesterday (6 December) Tottenham are laying the groundwork for an unprecedented January window and there could be more than 10 incoming and outgoing transfers combined.
Despite academy graduate Skipp enjoying a breakout season that has seen him establish himself as a fans favourite, Agbonlahor has claimed the priority should be addressing the midfield.
“Do it whenever you can,” he told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“January is a very slow month with fixtures, there are only three or four games with no midweek games.
“It’s a month where you can chop and change so if the option is there to sell players and bring in other players I’m sure he will.
“He won’t wait until the summer. If it’s on, he’ll do it.
“Midfield is where he needs to focus, for sure. Another centre-half too.
“None of their centre-midfielders are good enough for where Spurs want to go. So two new centre-midfielders and a number 10.
“They need more goals from midfield, you don’t really see Spurs’ midfielders scoring goals.
“I would keep Skipp but I would have him for rotation. He’s not the answer if Spurs want to get into the top-four.
“He’s a good player but Spurs want to be in a big number of competitions, they need a bigger squad.
“If you have your strongest XI, Skipp should not be starting. Spurs should have better midfielders there.
“He doesn’t score goals, he’s neat with his play, breaks up the opposition but in the Premier League, to get into the top-four he’s not one you should have in your midfielder.”
