Tottenham have stepped up their transfer plans for next season by adding Leicester winger Demarai Gray to their summer shopping list, according to a report.

The Evening Standard claim Spurs are keen to add a pacy dribbler who can carry the ball forward to their team.

It is said that the three players on Tottenham's list are Everton's Ross Barkley, Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha and Leicester young gun Gray.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen the attacking area of his team after the struggles of record signing Moussa Sissoko following his £30million switch from Newcastle last summer.

The France international was signed to fill the ball-carrier void but he has been a disappointment, registering just four assists and not a single goal from 21 matches in all competitions.

It appears Spurs could now turn their attention elsewhere and the Standard report that Pochettino is a long-time admirer of winger Gray, who joined Leicester from Birmingham for £3.75million in January of last year.

The youngster, 20, has struggled to force his way regularly into Claudio Ranieri's team but demonstrated his ability with a brilliant winner for Leicester in their midweek FA Cup win over Derby.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League ahead of their trip to Liverpool on Saturday evening, although they are a distant nine points adrift of Antonio Conte's runaway leaders.

Football Insider verdict:

Tottenham's team have most bases covered - a fine goalkeeper, super-solid defenders, midfield depth, creativity and goalscorers. But they don't have a magician, a dribbler who can carry the ball half the length of the pitch and turn defence into attack in an instant. Sissoko was supposed to be that man but, plainly, is not up to it, certainly in the Premier League. His career will always be a case of 'what might have been'. Spurs need a man who can consistently deliver, a regular conjurer of tricks. Not a clown.
