Trent Alexander-Arnold 'very lucky' to escape punishment as controversial Liverpool pictures emerge - pundit
Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was "very lucky" not to concede a penalty against Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said there was "no need" for the 24-year-old to push Ryan Sessegnon inside the 18-yard box.
As shown on Sky Sports (6 November), Sessegnon went to ground under contact from Alexander-Arnold in the first half of Tottenham's 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.
Referee Andy Madley did not deem the incident as worthy of a penalty and VAR official Darren England did not adjudge his colleague to have made a clear and obvious error.
The decision came at a key point in the game with Jurgen Klopp's side 1-0 up at the time.
Liverpool closed the gap on fourth-placed Spurs to seven points after the victory.
When asked by Football Insider if Antonio Conte's side were wrongly denied a penalty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Robinson said: "I think Trent Alexander-Arnold was very lucky to get away with that.
"He is the wrong side of Sessegnon. It is not as if they are going shoulder to shoulder for the ball. There was no need for the little shove.
"The referee could have easily given it. I think it was one of those where VAR would not have intervened either way, whether it had been given or not."
