Paul Robinson was left baffled that Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings was deemed guilty of conceding a penalty against Leicester.

The former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the penalty awarded to the Foxes in Monday's 4-0 thrashing should have been overturned by VAR.

Mings was adjudged to have used his arm when clearing a Harvey Barnes cross shortly into the second half.

The replays appeared to show the ball coming off the 26-year-old's shoulder but VAR did not overturn referee Michael Oliver's decision.

Jamie Vardy stepped up and scored the penalty to give the Foxes a 2-0 lead at the King Power stadium - running out eventual 4-0 winners.

When asked for his assessment of the penalty incident on Monday night, Robinson told Football Insider: "There is a line of handball and if I was a Villa fan...

"It was his shoulder! He moves it towards the ball but the shoulder is not handball. It certainly was not below the shoulder joint. But if he was stood upright would it have been given as handball? I think not.

"It was a harsh one that was given against Villa but when you are down there these decisions go against you."

A brace from both Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy enough to deal Villa their sixth straight loss in all competitions.

The Claret and Blues currently sit 19th in the Premier League, two points adrift of safety with one game in hand over their promotion rivals.

Dean Smith's side welcomes the in-form Chelsea to Villa Park on Saturday evening.
