Virgil van Dijk is open to signing a new Liverpool deal when talks finally kick off, sources have told Football Insider.

Van Dijk, whose current deal is up in less than 12 months, has sparked some panic within the Liverpool support with his recent comments on his situation.

In recent days, he has revealed there is “no update” on discussions over a new deal despite his clear importance to the Liverpool side.

'Willingness from all parties' to extend Van Dijk's Liverpool deal

Additionally, Van Dijk told the media following the Netherlands' Euro 2024 exit that he will "think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international player".

However, sources say there is "a willingness from all parties" to extend the centre-back's Anfield stay.

As things stand Van Dijk will be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from January 2025.

But Liverpool are set to move to prevent that scenario by opening talks with the Reds skipper towards the end of 2024.

He made 48 appearances in total last term, starting in 45 of those outings and winning the League Cup.
