The downfall of Vitor Pereira at Wolves may have started long before the clubs winless start to the Premier League season.

Wolves lost 3-0 at Fulham to remain bottom of the Premier League table with just two points from 10 matches.

Pereira was handed a new contract at Wolves this season despite their poor form, in a decision which has now backfired.

Tensions were rising at the club, with Pereira clashing with Wolves supporters, and a woeful defeat at Fulham was the final straw.

Wolves' summer recruitment was wrong

Wolves did lose key players in the summer transfer window, and have not been able to replace the quality which has departed Molineux.

The Daily Mail, [2nd November] state that Pereira's transfer strategy was wrong and that the club perhaps should not have signed Jhon Arias from Fluminense.

"Pereira knew from a long way out that game-breakers Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri would be sold and his answer was Jhon Arias," the Daily Mail stated.

"A player who had shone in South American football but who had never been summoned to Europe, even though he was 27 when Wolves bought him.

"That would have been a red flag to many other clubs. Again, though, with a head coach driving recruitment, such matters are overlooked."

Vitor Pereira decision slammed as "crazy"

Speaking to BBC Sport, [2nd November], former Premier League goalkeeper Tim Krul believes Wolves were wrong to hand Pereira a new deal.

"It's crazy that Wolves gave Vítor Pereira a new contract three weeks ago on such a bad run," Krul said.

"They lost against the three promoted teams and those are the games you expect Wolverhampton Wanderers to win."

Wolves travel to Chelsea next before the international break, still looking for that first Premier League victory.
