Sources: Werner may quit Chelsea this summer
Timo Werner may quit Chelsea as early as this summer after failing to set the Premier League alight, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The forward, 25, signed a five-year contract with the Blues when they triggered his RB Leipzig release clause of around £45million last summer.
But Chelsea sources have told Football Insider that few at the club expect Werner to see out his contract, or anywhere near.
There is a growing expectation that the Germany international will return to his homeland "in the next year or two".
A deal could even be agreed as early as the summer window, especially if Werner pushes hard for a move.
Chelsea would need to replace the forward but would more likely go for a central striker.
Werner is at his most comfortable operating on the left flank and cutting on on to his favoured right foot.
He has been used regularly in the spearhead role as well, but has not shone in that position.
Along with fellow Germany international Kai Havertz, Werner was the headline signing of a remarkable £250million spending spree by Chelsea last summer.
Both players have struggled to live up to their billing, and price tags.
Werner has scored 10 goals and provided nine assists from 37 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this season.
But he netted only once in the Premier League since 7th November and has been in and out of the starting XI.
