West Ham have given the green light to Issa Diop leaving the club this month, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The centre-back has slipped down the pecking order at the Hammers this season and been a fringe player in David Moyes' revitalised side.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Moyes has told the player he can go out on loan in this month's window.

Diop, who made such a strong impression during his first two seasons in English football, has been linked with leading Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Arsenal.

It is believed there are multiple sides willing to take him on loan in this window.

West Ham are likely to want all of the defender's wages covered as well as a loan fee for his services for half-a-season.

Diop was a bedrock of the Irons defence in his first two campaigns after signing from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for a fee of around £22million.

The former France Under-21 international was widely regarded as the outstanding defender at the club for much of that time.

But he has subsequently been usurped by not only Angelo Ogbonna, but also less heralded defenders.

Ogbonna has started all 19 of West Ham's Premier League matches, while Fabian Balbuena has started 12.

Loanee Craig Dawson has slotted in alongside Ogbonna for the last four league matches.

That is more than Diop, who has started three league fixtures among five appearances in all competitions this season.
