West Ham told to sign 'proven' Premier League striker in January and forget Haller 2.0 after reported update
Paul Robinson has urged West Ham not to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper fears the 23-year-old would struggle in the Premier League much like Sebastien Haller.
According to Spanish outlet AS, via Eurosport (21 September), the Hammers and Arsenal are interested in the Serbia international.
Jovic has struggled since arriving to the Bernabeu in a £52.4million deal from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019.
It is reported that the striker could leave Real Madrid in January but is thought to favour a move to Germany or Italy.
When asked by Football Insider if Jovic would be a welcome addition at the London Stadium, Robinson said:
"I have not seen too much from him over the past couple of seasons.
"I think it would be a risk in all honesty. They took a risk with Haller and it backfired.
"I think they should go for a more proven striker, perhaps someone who has scored goals in the Premier League to provide cover and competition for [Michail] Antonio.
"It is a hard sell though. How do you convince someone to come in when they are going to be sitting on the bench if Antonio is fit."
The only recognised senior striker in David Moyes' squad is Michail Antonio.
The Jamaica international is the Premier League's top scorer this season with five goals.
