Sheffield Wednesday fans will be rightly annoyed after Derby supporters could be heard signing pro-Dejphon Chansiri chants during Monday’s 3-0 defeat.

Little has gone right for the Owls this season, and the loss at Hillsborough was another reminder of how dire their situation has become.

Many fans will be quick to point the finger at former owner Chansiri, who oversaw multiple point deductions at Sheffield Wednesday before he relinquished control in October 2025 as the club entered administration.

Few supporters will know what it feels like to be in the Owls’ situation. However, the Hillsborough faithful would have hoped to find common ground with Derby fans, who went through a similar torrid time a few seasons back.

Yet, what occurred instead was a series of disgusting chants mocking their current situation.

Derby County fans heard singing pro-Dejphon Chansiri chants

While Sheffield Wednesday continues to search for a buyer, their season is practically over.

The Owls remain on minus nine points and have still picked up just one victory in the Championship this campaign.

Few situations in the second tier have been comparable to this, with Derby’s in the 2021-22 campaign perhaps the only one with similarities in recent memory.

Therefore, when journalist Alex Miller confirmed via X on 16 December that the visiting fans were singing “we're all having a party when Sheffield Wednesday dies,” just a minute into the match, it was a disgusting revelation.

How Rams fans can sing about such a situation when they have been there themselves in vile.

While there are suggestions that this was in response to previous chants by Sheffield Wednesday fans from a few years ago, they should have taken the moral high ground and moved on.

Instead, Derby fans showed their true colours, with their lack of empathy for the situation abhorrent.

What is the latest on Sheffield Wednesday’s ownership situation?

With this season clearly a write-off, Owls fans will be keen to see a new owner quickly come in so they can start the next campaign with a clean slate.

As it stands, Mike Ashley is among three bidders vying for Sheffield Wednesday, in a list that also includes a group led by Dunfermline Athletic co-owner James Bord.

It is believed that a takeover could cost £30million to complete as the Owls fans look to put the Chansiri days behind them.

However, it remains to be seen how long it will take until a new owner takes the reins.
