Wolves make Jorgen Strand Larsen decision as Newcastle United pursuit builds

Newcastle's striker search continues despite their signing of Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade, with Jorgen Strand Larsen a target.

Newcastle have endured a torrid transfer window that continues to roll under the cloud of Alexander Isak's potential transfer out of the club.

Eddie Howe's side have been in the market for a new striker no matter what happens to Isak due to the club being light in the area.

Newcastle have explored a deal for Yoane Wissa and Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen is also a target for the club.

The Magpies were left deeper in the lurch after Anthony Gordon's red card sees Newcastle without their stand-in striker also out for the next three games.

Newcastle target at the centre of injury scare

After having multiple bids for Wissa turned down by Brentford, Newcastle pivoted their interest to Strand Larsen, with Wolves also turning down bids for their forward.

Speaking ahead of their match against Everton on Saturday, Vitor Pereira said: "It is important that we know every person has ambition in life, but at this moment, Jorgen is our player, is working hard because he has a good personality and is a team player.

"He is dealing with a small injury problem, and I hope we can play tomorrow with him. He is our player and an important player for us, and everything we cannot control, we cannot lose our energy. At this moment, it is important to think about the game."

Strand Larsen would head to Newcastle and have to compete with new signing Woltemade who signed for a fee of over £60 million.

What the Woltemade move means for Isak, is unknown, but a move for Strand Larsen too would surely see Isak departe St. James' Park.

Howe's options in attacking areas are incredibly limited, with or without his star Swedish striker, and a suspension for Gordon.

Before Woltemade's move Isak was the only striker in Newcastle's squad and Gordon was having to play out of position so Howe could fill his lineup.

A move for the 23-year-old German gives Howe more flexibility but one injury could land Newcastle in hot water once again, with fixture congestion mounting in the coming weeks.

Newcastle will have to be smart in their move for a new forward but also wary that their current targets, Wissa and Strand Larsen, wouldn't like playing second fiddle to the unproven Woltemade, whose £60m outlay also means a backup role is off the table.
