'Worries me' - Exclusive: Robinson frets over Newcastle player yet to fulfil 'expectations'

Paul Robinson revealed that he was worried about Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron despite his promising display against Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the former England and Tottenham goalkeeper shared that Almiron had to start getting goals and assists.

Almiron is yet to register a goal or an assist for Newcastle despite playing 19 times for the club since joining from Atlanta United in January.

Robinson stated that Almiron's work rate which helped him impress against Chelsea wasn't in question but pointed out the player hadn't fulfilled the big expectations there were for him ahead of his arrival, due to not delivering in front of goal.

When asked about Almiron impressing against Chelsea despite not scoring, Robinson told Football Insider: "It's his end product that worries me.

"I think his work ethic and the way he plays is not in question.

"He came in with big expectations and for me, he hasn't fulfilled those expectations.

"His work ethic and work rate isn't in question based on the way he played the other day, but he has to have an end product.

"He has to get goals, he has to get assists."

Newcastle spent big-money on signing Almiron from Atlanta United as they agreed a £20million deal for him, which ended up breaking their long-standing transfer-record at the time.

Before arriving at St James Park, the Paraguayan attacking midfielder managed 22 goals and 21 assists in the 70 appearances he made for Atlanta United.

Almiron also featured in the MLS team of the year for the past two seasons and was one of only six players to record double figures for both goals and assists in American's top-flight in 2018.
