McAvennie blasts Dier after Tottenham update from Nuno
Frank McAvennie has insisted Eric Dier should not have a place in the Tottenham side.
The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Spurs should not reintroduce Dier to the side after he recovers from injury.
Football.london quoted Nuno Espirito Santo after the Crystal Palace game (September 11th) as saying Tottenham must “wait and see” on Dier’s condition.
The England international limped off through injury in the 12th minute of Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat against Palace.
The 45-cap England defender could miss Spurs’ maiden Europa Conference League group match against Rennes on Thursday.
Fellow centre-backs Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero will also be missing.

They continue to quarantine in Croatia with teammate Giovanni Lo Celso after international duty.
Romero joined Spurs this summer from Atalanta on an initial loan.
Meanwhile, Toby Alderweireld departed for Qatar Stars League club Al-Duhail.
McAvennie insisted Dier has never possessed the qualities required to play at centre-back.
“They’re a team that is meant to know a lot about football, they are always on about football excellence,” he told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“Eric Dier has never been a centre half.
“When you watch him you can see that he just hasn’t got it.
“They have tried to make a space for him in the team.
“They don’t need him in the midfield, and he doesn’t do it at the back. He never has been a defender and never will be.”
Dier and Sanchez had started each of the first three Premier League fixtures this season, keeping three clean sheets.
The former Sporting CP man was utilised 39 times at centre-back last season by Spurs.
