McAvennie: Edouard 'downed tools' at Celtic but will be 'amazing for Palace'
Frank McAvennie has swiped at former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard after he marked his Crystal Palace debut with a goal.
The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the striker’s impressive first outing.
Edouard scored two late goals as Palace beat Tottenham 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Edouard did play for Celtic this season and even scored two goals in the Premiership.
McAvennie insists the striker downed tools while at Parkhead and questioned why he didn’t perform as he did on Saturday while still at Celtic.
“Typical, he didn’t do that for Celtic was he?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’ve been critical of him but one thing I’ve never denied is his ability, he has it in abundance.
“I have no doubt he will be amazing for Palace. I always said Moussa Dembele could be playing at Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“I think Edouard is better than him and he can go further. He has so much potential.
“You can’t down tools though, that’s what he did at Celtic. Now he has a manager that trusts him and he will thrive off that.
“Let’s be honest, he should have left Celtic last year. There was a lot going on and he should have gone, he wanted to leave.
“Good luck to him, I will be keeping an eye on him. He really can go all the way to the top.”
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club will receive an initial £15million for Edouard rising to £20million with add-ons.
The striker scored 86 goals in 179 games at the Parkhead club after joining in 2017.
