Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic 2020 arrival Ismaila Soro is a brilliant talent who has transformed the whole team.

The Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, compared the 22-year-old to Chelsea greats Dennis Wise and N’Golo Kante in a glowing reference of his talents.

Soro replaced captain Scott Brown in the lineups against Lille and Kilmarnock and impressed as Neil Lennon’s side ended their torrid run of form with back-to-back wins.

He signed from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda for a fee of £2million in January 2020 but had just 37 minutes of first-team action to his name prior to last week.

There were also rare starts for David Turnbull and Conor Hazard as Lennon turned to youth amid growing pressure on his position at Parkhead.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Soro’s performances, McAvennie said:

“The boy Soro has not had many games because there are some big guns in front of him, the likes of Scott Brown and Ryan Christie – the so-called superstars.

“To move Scott out of the team was a big thing so the manager deserves a lot a credit. Bringing Soro in has changed the whole dynamic of the team.

“I have not seen somebody tackle like the boy Soro for a long, long time. He is a bit like the next Dennis Wise or a Kante. A player that can play but gets his foot in.

“I am a big fan of the boy. A wonderful player who compliments Turnbull and McGregor.”
