McAvennie Exclusive: I've been told Celtic are set for a blizzard of new signings

Frank McAvennie has heaped praise on the new Mohamed Elyounoussi deal and revealed he has been told the winger will be the first of many new Celtic signings this summer.

The former Hoop, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 24-year-old will herald a blizzard of fresh arrivals as Neil Lennon assembles his squad ahead of a potentially historic season.

The club confirmed the signing of the Norway international on a second loan deal from Southampton yesterday after this site revealed earlier in the day that the winger had agreed to his return.

The attacker, who scored seven goals and provided six assists, made a promising start to life in Scotland before injury.

McAvennie believes the signing gives Neil Lennon’s side great balance next season as they go for a historic 10th consecutive league title.

“I like the boy,” he told Football Insider. “A very good player.

“They have been playing Micky Johnston there sometimes but he is not a proper winger. To have Elyounoussi on one side and Forrest on the other gives you great balance.

“I am absolutely delighted that he has signed. He was outstanding until he got injured. He can score goals and he reminds me of Sinclair when he was banging in goals all of the time.

“One good signing and I have heard that they are going to be signing a few more. So let’s wait and see.”

Elyounoussi told Celtic TV: “Since the league stopped, I got a lot of positive messages from fans.

“They told me what they thought about me, and for me to take another year, and I have to say, that made the choice even easier.
