Frank McAvennie has claimed Christopher Jullien will not be seen on the pitch until 2022 after footage emerged of the Celtic defender in rehabilitation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Parkhead legend fears the 27-year-old will never fully recover from the knee injury he suffered against Dundee United in December.

Jullien posted footage on Twitter of him kicking a football and walking unsupported while his left knee was in a brace.

Prior to his resignation, Neil Lennon revealed that the centre-half is likely to be sidelined for nine months with the knee problem.

Such a timeline would see the Frenchman return to action in November of this year.

When asked for his reaction to the images and when he thinks fans can expect to see Jullien play again, McAvennie told Football Insider: “We will not see him until 2022.

“It is a hell of an injury to come back from. I really hope the boy is alright because it is a hell of an injury. He could come back stronger and that is what we are all hoping.

“I can only speak from experience and when I was injured for a year I wasn’t the same player when I came back. I was 90/95 per cent but I could notice it within myself.

“Let’s hope that he makes a full recovery though.”

Jullien has made 61 career appearances for the Hoops.

He has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Celtic Park, having arrived from Toulouse in July 2019.
