McAvennie hails 'brilliant' Celtic news as deal reportedly done for Hatate

Frank McAvennie has hailed Ange Postecoglou’s latest Celtic transfer update as “brilliant”.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the side need more bodies to cope with their ongoing injury crisis.

As quoted by the Daily Record (14 December) Postecoglou insists “we are working really hard” to secure signings that can arrive right at the start of the January window.

On Monday (13 December) Japanese outlet Hochi Sports reported the Hoops have reached an agreement to sign Kawasaki Frontale ace Reo Hatate.

Celtic have been linked with a host of J-League players following the success of summer signing Kyogo Furuhashi.

McAvennie insists Postecoglou has “nailed” the signing of the Japan striker and was glad to hear some of his countrymen may be joining the club soon.

“That’s brilliant to hear,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I have been saying for ages how Celtic need more bodies in there.

“We’re really seeing that now with the number of injuries we are getting.

“We need depth but we also need some better options, especially at the back.

“Three players, possibly all from Japan, that’s really exciting.

“It will be a boost for Kyogo as well, he can only benefit from having more players who have been over in Japan around him.

“It’s a long journey to make so they can all help each other out.

“You have to trust Ange with these ones, he’s nailed it with Kyogo so hopefully these new players can do the business.”

Furuhashi has scored 14 goals in 24 appearances since signing for Celtic

The club are sweating on his fitness ahead of Sunday’s (19 December) League Cup final.
