McAvennie: Rangers fans will be fuming if Veerman is signed after 'crazy' news
Frank McAvennie claims Rangers can’t afford to sign Joey Veerman after his club placed an £8million price tag on his head.
The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also insisted the potential signing could rile fans.
Quoted by the Scottish Sun on 21st July, Veerman, 22, claims Heerenveen are making things “very difficult” by demanding a “crazy” £8million.
These quotes came after Serie A side Verona had a £5m bid rejected.
On 17th July, The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell reported the playmaker, who is under contract until 2024, is one of Rangers’ top targets this summer.
Veerman scored nine goals and chipped in with 11 assists in 39 outings for Heerenveen last term.

McAvennie claims Rangers can’t afford Veerman’s asking price and insisted Steven Gerrard already has enough midfielders.
“The boy will leave,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Even Celtic with their finances, will they go out and spend £8million on a player?
“I’m not sure Rangers can do that. I don’t think they have the financial strength. It could be a mistake.
“They have enough midfield players, that’s one position they don’t need to spend £8million on.
“A forward or a centre half I can understand, they are overwhelmed there.
“I don’t think the fans will be happy if they spend £8million, a huge fee, on a player who might only be a bit-part.”
Rangers have already signed midfielder John Lundstram on a free transfer this summer.
He joins a midfield packed with top talent such as Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and Joe Aribo.
