McAvennie: Rangers players are scared of Celtic - and one man in particular
Frank McAvennie insists Rangers and Celtic are both in desperate need of an Old Firm win ahead of this weekend’s clash.
The Parkhead icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the team with the better defence will win the game.
Celtic travel to Ibrox on Sunday looking to pick up an Old Firm win after failing to beat their city rivals in last season.
The Hoops are scoring for fun at the moment, netting 21 in their last six games.
In comparison, Rangers have scored 12 in their last six but couldn’t find a way past a 10-man Alashkert on Thursday night.
There is no doubting both teams’ attacking quality and McAvennie claims whoever puts in the better defensive performance will win the Old Firm.

“I wouldn’t say Rangers need it more,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It doesn’t matter the circumstances, both teams need to win the Old Firm no matter what.
“That’s just how it is. Rangers and Celtic are both on the same points in the league and have done the same in Europe.
“It just looks like Rangers have gotten worse since last season and we have gotten better.
“That’s probably brought it to a level playing field. What I would say is that Celtic are scoring for fun, just look at Kyogo.
“Rangers are also scoring a few goals to be fair. I think whoever has the better defence, that will win the Old Firm.
“Kyogo has Rangers worried. Their defence hasn’t been the best this season.“
Rangers could be without several key players and Steven Gerrard for this weekend’s game after the confirmation of positive COVID cases in the Gers camp.
Gerrard did not ravel to Armenia for his side’s 0-0 draw with Alashkert on Thursday night.
