McAvennie reveals Celtic signing spree secret - 'this is what I've been told'

Frank McAvennie has hailed Ange Postecoglou for ensuring he has a say in the transfer business at Celtic.

But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said he has been told that Postecoglou is not directly involved with head of recruitment Mark Lawwell.

On Thursday (24 November), the Hoops confirmed the signing of Yuki Kobayashi from Vissel Kobe on a five-year deal.

The 22-year-old becomes the fifth Japanese player to join Parkhead since Postecoglou’s arrival.

As quoted by the Scotsman (14 November), the Aussie boss praised the work of Lawwell’s recruitment department who do all of the work on the scouting side, with the final transfer decision lying with the manager.

The 57-year-old said that he likes to have as much information as possible on transfer targets but often has to use his experience and judgement to make the final decision.

McAvennie revealed what he has heard about the recruitment process.

This is what I have been told,” he told Football Insider.

The situation is that Ange speaks to his agent and tells him who he identifies with and it is his agent who deals with Mark.

I am not saying he does not speak to Ange but the day to day things go through his agent.

I think Ange just wants to deal with the football which is great. He tells them who he has got and who he wants and they go get them for him.
