McAvennie: Rogic and Bitton 'like new signings' at Celtic after critical update

Frank McAvennie insists Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton can be like new signings at Celtic if they are brought back into the fold.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, wants to see the pair given another chance.

Neither player featured as the Hoops beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in their first pre-season fixture.

Rogic only started 10 league games last season while Bitton only made 14 top flight appearances.

Bitton was largely sidelined after being sent off against Rangers in January.

McAvennie especially wants to see Rogic given another chance as he can be a ‘Wonderful’ player on his day.

“I can’t stop talking about Rogic,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think he’s a wonderful player, if he can get him fit then it’s like a new signing.

“Bitton has been there for a while and he’s not been in. That’s been a big disappointment.

“He’s a talent as well. Postecoglou’s best work could be bringing old players back into the fold.

“Getting them back and firing will do us the world of good. They weren’t getting a chance under Lenny or Kennedy.

“You could set your watch by Lennon taking off Rogic after 60 minutes.

“He needs confidence to play well and hopefully Ange is the man to help him with that.”

Rogic joined Celtic from Australian side Central Coast Mariners in the January of 2013.

Bitton joined from Israeli side Ashdod in the summer of the same year.
