Hagi, the son of the iconic Gheorghe, has notched two goals and one assist in all competitions this season as well as impressing for Romania in the recent international break.

McAvennie has been impressed by the 25-year-old but admitted he will never reach the levels of his dad.

"I think he's not a bad player at all," he told Football Insider.

"I don't know what the situation was with him when Michael Beale was there or why it didn't work out for him, but I think he is a decent player.

"He's got a hell of a weight on his shoulders because of his dad. Everyone wants to see him be his dad but that's not happening.

Rangers

"What is happening here is this - he's good in his own right so it wouldn't surprise me if Clement brings him back in.

"I don't think Rangers are going to be spending a lot of money in January, I don't think they can afford it."
