McAvennie tells Aston Villa to swoop for 'quality' Abraham after source's update

Frank McAvennie claims Aston Villa should still sign Tammy Abraham despite his high wage demands.

The former Villains striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the Chelsea striker.

Football Insider revealed on 30th July that Abraham’s salary demands are putting off his many Premier League suitors.

A Villa source told Football Insider the club would not pay Abraham ‘s £130,000-a-week wage demands and they opted to sign Danny Ings instead.

Ings could lead the line with Ollie Watkins next season but McAvennie has told Villa to sign Abraham as well.

He insists Villa have the money after selling Jack Grealish to Man City for £100million.

“Abraham is a quality player, I love him,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’ve always said that I wanted him to sign for West Ham or Villa.

“He’s been playing for Chelsea in pre-season, is that shop window or so he can play?

“Obviously he has the Villa connection but with those wages I’m not surprised they have turned their attention elsewhere.

“I still rate him, Villa have a fair bit of money now so I’m sure they could afford him anyway.

“Watkins can play out wide but with all these players they are signing I don’t know where anyone will fit.

“If there’s a way to get him in there, Villa should go and get him quickly.”

Abraham has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel in January.

The Blues also plan to sign a new A-list striker in this window, with Romelu Lukaku and Erling Haaland among the targets, so Abraham is expected to leave.
