McAvennie tells Rangers fans they have a brilliant new talent on their hands
Frank McAvennie insists Fashion Sakala couldn’t have got off to a better start at Rangers after scoring against Real Madrid.
The Celtic icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped the striker to start against Livingston at the weekend.
Summer signing Sakala, 24, tucked home the equaliser as Rangers beat Real Madrid 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Sakala joined the club on a free transfer after his contract with KV Oostende expired at the end of the season.
Due to travel problems and fitness issues he has been unable to feature for the majority of Rangers’ pre-season.
McAvennie joked about how Real Madrid’s 11 wasn’t as strong as it could have been but admitted Sakala looks like the real deal.

“It’s not exactly the galacticos is it?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I’m only kidding, there were still some very good defenders in there and I saw the goal, it was a cracking finish.
“Listen the boy can score goals. He must be able to or Rangers wouldn’t have signed him.
“You need a chance to settle in properly but what a start for the boy. He sounds like the real deal.
“I don’t know if he’s good enough to take Morelos’ place but that’s only because I don’t know him too well.
“Don’t get carried away, he looked good. He doesn’t need pressure.
“If Morelos isn’t back by the weekend, well he won’t be will he? Why not start Sakala if he’s fit enough.”
Rangers face Livingston on Saturday as their Scottish Premiership title defence gets underway.
Alfredo Morelos has not returned to Auchenhowie following his exploits with Colombia this summer.
