McAvennie verdict on Giakoumakis making Celtic debut today after news update
Frank McAvennie claims Albian Ajeti will retain his place in the Celtic team ahead of Georgios Giakoumakis for today’s game against Livingston.
The Parkhead icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, made his prediction after Thursday’s loss to Real Betis.
Ajeti opened the scoring in Seville, his third strike in two games, but the Hoops collapsed and lost the game 4-3.
Giakoumakis joined Celtic from VVV Venlo on deadline day but is yet to make an appearance for his new side.
Ange Postecoglou told the Daily Record the striker could be involved today but if he isn’t then he will be handed his debut in the cup on Thursday.
Ajeti was handed a first start of the season last week after star man Kyogo Furuhashi picked up an injury on international duty and McAvennie thinks he will retain his place.

“I’ve never doubted he [Ajeti] can score goals,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I said last week his movement is the problem for me and I said he could never be the big man for Celtic.
“If he keeps scoring he will certainly do a job. I expect it will be him at the weekend and for the foreseeable.
“Giakoumakis won’t come straight in I don’t think. He looks really promising.
” The thing for me is Ajeti scored a few at the start of last season as well.
“The key for him to keep it going. He needs to make a point because Kyogo will probably go straight back in.
“Then we have to see Giakoumakis as well but as I said I don’t he will go straight into the starting 11.”
