Rangers attacker Josh Windass massively splits opinion amongst Gers fans but Lee McCulloch’s recent comments about the 24-year-old could be a sign the 24-year-old is out to silence his critics next season.
Speaking to the Evening Times, McCulloch revealed that it has been “rumoured” Windass has been in at the club’s Auchenhowie training ground working on his own ahead of pre-season training getting started on June 15th.
Despite finishing as the joint-top goalscorer last season, Windass came in for a lot of criticism for his performances and many Gers fans would be happy to see the 24-year-old sold this summer.
New Gers boss Steven Gerrard looks set to keep him at Ibrox and if the former Accrington star has been in working alone to get himself in top condition for the new campaign then he deserves a massive amount of credit.
With Gerrard almost certain to bring in a host of new players, Windass clearly wants to make a positive impression ahead of what could be a landmark campaign for the Light Blues.
After hitting the net 18 times last season, it’s clear there’s a talented, if incredibly inconsistent, player in there and if Gerrard and his coaches can get Windass to regularly perform at a high level then they’ll have a quality player on their hands.
For all the complaints about Windass over the last 12 months, he is at least giving the impression he is determined to show his value to the Gers and win a place in the starting XI under Gerrard.
