McLeish backs Aston Villa to sign Winks as Tottenham asking price revealed
Alex McLeish has backed Newcastle United or Aston Villa to launch a move for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested there would be a queue of clubs for the midfielder.
As revealed by Football Insider on June 9th, Spurs have told Winks he will be allowed to leave the club.
It is understood Tottenham have set a £30million price tag on the midfielder’s head but could accept a lower fee.
New director of football Fabio Paratici has been charged with negotiating the academy graduate’s exit.
McLeish admitted he thought Spurs were being overly optimistic with their valuation of Winks.

However, he suggested there would still be plenty of suitors for his signing.
Asked who he could see Winks joining, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Newcastle United, would they not fancy him?
“Aston Villa too. I don’t know if Aston Villa have got enough midfielders.
“He’s certainly bright enough to play for some of these teams.
“The price tag’s a little bit high in my opinion. However, I don’t think he’ll go amiss of getting a new club.”
Winks tumbled down the pecking order at Tottenham under former manager Jose Mourinho.
He made just one appearance in the Portuguese manager’s final 13 league games in charge.
The 10-cap England international played a total of 30 times across all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.
He has made 173 appearances for Spurs, 109 of which have come in the Premier League.
