McLeish: Celtic will make a major announcement revealing everything after hint dropped
Alex McLeish was baffled to hear Neil Lennon hint at behind-the-scenes issues at Celtic – but expects a major announcement revealing everything at some stage.
The former Rangers and Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Northern Irish manager would have raised a few eyebrows with his comments earlier in the week.
As quoted by the Daily Record before the win over Aberdeen, Lennon claimed there were “mitigating circumstances” for the Bhoys’ poor season that he could not discuss publicly.
Celtic currently sit 15 points adrift of fierce rivals Rangers at the top of the Premiership table, while they were knocked out of the Europa League at the group stage.
The Hoops are set for a summer of change both on and off the pitch, with long-serving chief executive Peter Lawwell already announced to be stepping down from his post at the end of the season.
McLeish admitted it seemed a strange statement for Lennon to make and suggested there could be more news in the near future.

McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “When you make a statement like that then it does raise eyebrows.
“Whether we’ll hear something at a later time, you would probably imagine that something would come out. Maybe now’s not the right time for them to release it.
“That is their prerogative, you can’t force Celtic to give answers, it’s possibly not the time to announce anything.”
Lennon told the Daily Record: “I don’t think it’s unfair or unrealistic but we have had mitigating circumstances throughout the course of the campaign, some of which I can’t divulge publicly.
“I’ve never shied away from the fact that it’s been massively disappointing and we could and should have performed better. That’s on me, my staff and the football department as well.”
