McLeish hails Bielsa a 'pure football genius' after 'incredible' Leeds United reveal
Alex McLeish has heralded the “incredible” Marcelo Bielsa for remaining at Leeds United to oversee training ground developments ahead of pre-season.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, branded the Argentine a “pure football genius” for his work at Elland Road.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds (June 19th), club chief Angus Kinnear revealed Bielsa had not taken a holiday during the Premier League’s off-season.
Instead, the Argentine remained at the club’s Thorp Arch training ground to oversee “significant upgrades”.
Kinnear also insisted he was certain Bielsa would commit to a new contract, having penned a one-year extension back in September.
McLeish admitted he was blown away by the 65-year-old’s dedication to the cause at Elland Road.

He insisted it would be a crushing blow if and when he does finally leave the club.
“The guy just lives and breathes football, doesn’t he?” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“The Leeds fans adore him. It would be like losing a family member if he was to leave Leeds.
“That is why they are acquiescing to a lot of his visions for the club. A pure football genius.
“He’s an incredible man in terms of the nature he goes about things.
“He is certainly an awesome coach when you consider the improvement to the many teams he’s been at.”
Bielsa has signed a one-year extension every summer since joining Leeds in 2018.
His last contract deal was penned the day before the Whites’ opening game of the 2020/21 campaign.
