McLeish hails 'brilliant move' as Tuanzebe stance on Aston Villa move reported

Alex McLeish insists Axel Tuanzebe can be a key man for Aston Villa after a new report on his future.

The former Villains manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest claims on the loanee.

On 13 September, The Sun reported Tuanzebe wants to join Villa on a permanent basis after making four appearances this season.

As revealed by this site, Villa paid Manchester United in excess of £5m to re-sign the defender on loan.

The 23-year-old spent two spells on loan at Villa Park in their 2017-18 and 2018-19 Championship campaigns.

McLeish claims Tuanzebe should be proud of being part of this Villa group and backed him to sign on a permanent basis.

“He came as a full back because the centre backs are entrenched in there,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“I know they have the full-back position sorted as well but he seems to be a very versatile player as well.

“The fact he can be in a squad as strong as that is a reason to be proud and it should give him the mental strength to challenge for a permanent position.

“Sometimes that versatility can be a problem for a player, therefore you are seen as a man of many positions.

“It blights the consistency of your career. He’s a good athlete and he is part of a really good squad. It could be a brilliant move.”

Villa are 12th in the Premier League after winning one of their opening four games.

They are next in action against Everton this weekend.
