McLeish hails Celtic for Giakoumakis bargain as Sky journalist makes £6m reveal
Alex McLeish has admitted signing Giorgios Giakoumakis for £2.5million could be “some bit of business” for Celtic.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 26-year-old’s record in the Netherlands suggested he would be a “good signing”.
He continued to reveal the Dutch outfit would have wanted £8.58million (€10million) had they not suffered the drop.
Giakoumakis was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season despite his club’s struggles.
McLeish tipped the Greece international to replicate his fine form in Scotland.

As such, he admitted may have struck lucky with the £6million price drop.
Asked if he thought Celtic had sealed a bargain, McLiehs told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Well, it remains to be seen. We’ll assess the guy’s level.
“I tend to think that when you’re coming from Holland and you’ve excelled against some of the top teams, then it does seem to be a good signing.
“The fact that Venlo were relegated and for it to go from €10million to £2.5million is some bit of business.
“That’s if he can live up to the reputation that he has shown in the Dutch Eredivisie.”
Giakoumakis netted 29 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions for Venlo last term.
He has six caps and one international goal under his belt.
He joins Kyogo Furuhashi and Albian Ajeti as Celtic’s centre-forward options this season.
