McLeish issues Bielsa 'will walk away' from Leeds prediction after Radrizzani interview

Alex McLeish claims Marcelo Bielsa would walk away from Leeds United if he believed he was underperforming.

The former manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to recent comments from Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizanni.

Radzrizzani spoke to Sky Sports (12 September) and claimed “there is no problem” when asked about Bielsa’s contract situation.

Bielsa only signed a one-year contract extension on the eve of the Premier League season and did the same last year.

McLeish insists Bielsa’s situation is unusual but says he’s impossible to criticise after the stellar work he has done with Leeds.

“It’s an unusual stance for a manager to take,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Normally you look for a bit of stability. If you are building something you can argue that things take time.

“Bielsa seems to be unique in that field and he’s happy to continue the arrangement.

“Who’s to say he’s wrong? He judges himself and if he feels he’s not doing well enough he will walk.

“Rather than getting a three-year contract and getting sacked for two year’s money.

“He’s got his ways and who can criticise him? He’s been superb and taken Leeds to Mecca really.”

Bielsa has been at Leeds since 2018 and led the club to a top half finish in the Premier League last season.

The Whites are next in action on Friday night as they travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle.
