Manchester United tipped to raid Leeds for Phillips by ex-manager amid Fernandes reveal
Alex McLeish has suggested Manchester United will consider launching a move to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips this summer.
The ex-Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old is exactly the sort of midfielder Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs at Old Trafford.
Phillips won his ninth cap for England on Sunday (June 13th) as he set up Raheem Sterling for the winner against Croatia.
McLeish insisted there would be plenty of “big clubs” sniffing around the Leeds star.
He suggested the Whites’ fierce rivals Manchester United could consider launching a shock raid.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You would think the big clubs would be looking at him. Manchester United are trying to go up a level.
“Players like Phillips are so energetic, so forward-thinking. It’s something United have lacked recently.
“Imagine a guy like Kalvin Phillips in there. (Scott) McTominay bombing on, (Bruno) Fernandes doing his thing, and a great playmaker like him.”
Football Insider pundit Alan Hutton has claimed only a ‘massive’ bid would tempt Leeds to sell Phillips.
He still has three years left on the contract he signed back in 2019.
The Leeds-born midfielder played 30 times across all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.
However, a shoulder injury and calf problem limited his availability throughout the season.
To date, he has made a total of 211 appearances under his belt for his boyhood club.
