'Phwoar, this guy's some player'- Exclusive: McLeish Wowed by one Celtic summer signing

Alex McLeish has hailed Shane Duffy as a “gamechanger” signing for Celtic and predicted him to make a big impact this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former treble-winning Rangers manager revealed why he is a big admirer of the on-loan Brighton defender.

Celtic announced in midweek they had finalised a deal for Duffy to become their fourth senior summer arrival.

The Hoops held extensive talks with Brighton over the structure of a deal before the Premier League club finally accepted a £2.5million loan bid to take the centre-back for the season.

“Celtic, I think, have done a fantastic piece of business this week with Duffy,” McLeish told Football Insider. “Shane Duffy, who’s a colossal, big centre-half and he’s the type of centre-half that will cause mayhem in the opposition box at set-pieces so that’s a wee bit of a game changer as well coming from the Celtic side.

“Duffy will give them that bit of reassurance and strength.

“You know when good players come to your club, the others feed off it. The others don’t want to be left behind, they go: ‘Phwoar, this guy’s some player, I’m going to prove I can impress him as well.’

“That’s what happens when you make a lot of real quality signings.”

Duffy is on international duty with Republic of Ireland and will not link up with his new teammates until next week.

The defender is set to come into contention to make his Hoops debut in their Scottish Premiership clash against Ross County on Saturday week.
