McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’m always excited about seeing a player coming from Holland, certainly when he’s got the scoring record Giakoumakis has.
“You’re thinking he could come and blow the Scottish League away.
“We’ve seen many good ones in the past, Hans Gillhaus when I was at Aberdeen, he was sensational.
“Willem van der Ark, he was six foot something, the Peter Crouch type. He became a bit of an icon as well at Aberdeen.
“I know they were actual Dutchmen but I know that players who play in that Dutch league, they like to call themselves very special in terms of quality and quality football.
“Therefore, you would think this guy, with his strength and also his power, he can be an asset to the Scottish League.”
Giakoumakis netted 26 goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances last season.
He looks set to fill the void left by Odsonne Edouard at Parkhead.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Hoops are in line to receive £20million for the Frenchman.
